Salams
No doubt you will have noticed that this blog is not updated frequently and has not been updated for a while now. I have come to the decision that its ‘Closing Time’ for this blog. All of the contributors here have their own blogs already anyway and I ask you visit these from the ‘Islamic Links’ section in the sidebar, if you wish to continue to benefit from our efforts.

The posts already here will remain, insha-Allah, but please do not post comments, as they will not be answered.

Please remember us all in your prayers.

Imam ibn al-Jawzi رحمه الله was once asked:

"Is it better for me to make Tasbeeh (praise Allah) or to make Istighfaar (seek forgiveness)?"

He replied:

"The dirty robe is more in need of soap than perfume"

Three supplications are answered without a doubt: the supplication of someone who is oppressed, the supplication of someone on a journey, and the supplication of parents for their children.

Simplyislam have just launched a major promotional campaign that will hopefully benefit brothers and sisters shopping online. The campaign has a tag line of:
“Free £10 vouchers for everyone from simplyislam.com!”.

The thinking behind this promotion is that rather than spending money on an advertising campaign, simplyislam are giving their marketing budget directly to their customers in the form of a £10 / $18 discount.

How it works is that customers register their £10 voucher after sending out an email to 5 friends informing them of the same offer. The voucher redeemable on purchases over £30 and the promotion lasts until August 31st 2007

“There are two ways of recognizing how to value and appreciate ‘ilm,

(1) Become a seeker of knowledge (taalibe ilm).

(2) Do not restrict this knowledge to knowing only.”
Mufti Mohammed Shafi (r.a.)

Hadith 26 June 2007 4:07 pm

Narrated Ibn Abbas:

The Prophet said, “If anyone of you, when having sexual intercourse with his wife, says:
Bismillah, Allahumma jannibna-Sh-Shaitan wa jannib-ish-Shaitan ma razaqtana,
and if it is destined that they should have a child, then Satan will never be able to harm him.” [Bukhari]

Duahs 4:06 pm

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ . اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ ، وَ جَنِّبِ الشِّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْتَنَا

Bismillah. Allahumma jannibnash-shaytan. Wa jannibish-shaytana-ma razaqtana.

‘With the name of Allah! O Allah! Save us from the evil of Shaytan and save whatever children You bestow us.’
[Maariful Hadeeth]

Quotes 25 June 2007 9:09 am

Beneficial knowledge is [knowledge] that increases your fear of God Most High, improves your ability to discern the faults of your ego, makes you more cognizant of how to worship your Lord, reduces your desire for this world, increases your longing for the next world, and opens your spiritual insight to the disastrous defects of your actions so you can avoid them. It discloses to you the plots and delusions of the Devil and how he misleads the scholars who have gone astray until he exposes them to the hatred and anger of God Most High, for they have used religion to purchase this world, taken knowledge as a means to gain the wealth of sultans, to consume the wealth of religious endowments, the poor, and the needy, and turned their energies throughout the day to the acquisition of prestige and high standing in the hearts of people, which forces them to show off their good deeds, to argue, and to be quarrelsome and ostentatious when they speak.
Imam Ghazali, Bidayat al-Hidaya
